Farming
strategy of the 1940's dictated that the ancient
forests be chopped and burned and turned into
pasture and cropland. Worriedly, the cantillo
family founder saw the retreat of the birds and
animals, and, going against his own economic interests,
he dedicated a significant tract of his huge farm
as a permanent refuge where the birds and monkeys
would be free to roam. La garza's owner, carlos
cantillo, honors his father's vision, both preserving
the forest and opening its interior for guests
to experience the awe and wonder of walking beneath
five-hundred year old trees. |
