FROM SAN JOSE:
From the airport it is about 2 2 1/2 hours, depending on traffic and weather. Drive past airport towards west (towards Pacific). Turn right at the exit for Naranjo (after the toll booth) and continue through Naranjo. Keep "ascending" through town, eventually turning right as you exit town -- follow main paved road. Next town is Zarcero (stop to see the gardens in front of the church - well worth a few minutes!) and continue following the main road. You'll pass though several mountain towns until you enter the capital of the San Carlos region, named Ciudad Quesada, or known by the locals as "San Carlos". Continue through town on the main streets, and now you'll start descending. Always staying on the main street, follow the main traffic. About 5 KM beyond Quesada you'll reach Florencia, a "T" intersection. Take a right (La Garza is about 8 KM from this intersection). Pass the giant sugar cane processing plant on the right side. La Garza is about 3 KM beyond the processing mill, on the left side. If you reach the gas station, you've passed the hotel by 5 KM....

FROM FORTUNA and ARENAL VOLCANO/TABACON HOT SPRINGS:
Follow main road directly through center of Fortuna with the volcano directly behind you. About 8 minutes (15 KM) ahead you will reach Tanque. A road enters from left. There are signs pointing towards Guatuso or Upala. Turn Left, and about 3 KM later (about 1/2 KM after a bridge) a road enters from the right with signs pointing to Muelle. Take the right and continue about 22 KM (15 minutes) until you reach a stop sign (big intersection with a gas station). At gas station turn right (signs for Ciudad Quesada), go 5 KM, and La Garza is on the right. If you reach the sugar mill on the left side, you've passed the hotel entrance by 3 KM....

FROM SARAPIQUI REGION (Aguas Zarcas, San Miguel, La Paz Waterfall Gardens) - from the town of San Migel. Take road Westbound marked to rio Cuarto (5 KM), then Venecia (10 KM), then to Aguas Zarcas (12 KM). In center of Aguas Zarcas turn right, followed paved road in the direction of Pital for about 5 KM. But before reaching Pital you take a paved road to left (this small community is called "Vuelto Kopper" but no town signs here). Follow signs to Muelle. Continue about 2 KM to another left -- take it (if you go straight the pavement ends). From here it is about 15 minutes to the main intersection for Muelle, with a gas station on the right. At the gas station turn left; continue 5 KM to Hotel La Garza.
